LIEBHERR AFRICA

Liebherr Africa approached ProjectWorks with the opportunity of creating a synergy between their well- established European Corporate Identity and an existing administration building not in sympathy with the aesthetic of the Corporate Identity. Use of colour, materials and finishes, budget permitting, was implemented to create an interaction between old and new. The client expressed a need for German precision finishes & quality in an African context, using African materials.

We succeeded in the standard set by driving quality constantly right from foundation phase until the completion of the building. Use of materials, horizontal bands of aluminium cladding, colour choices for wall finishes, motorised external blinds for privacy & sun control all had to be sympathetic to the European aesthetic while being firmly rooted in the practicality of building in Africa.

We visited a few Liebherr buildings in Germany to get a feel for the culture and the corporate identity of the client. This is a client who has a tried & tested business ethic which is continually improved on and not changed radically. The insulation of the building and the energy efficiency of the building were highlighted as this cut down on operational costs and gives a consistently comfortable working environment. All elements used where chosen with functional considerations first and foremost & then for aesthetic reasons. Demountable partitions that would make churning staff less disruptive & cheaper in the lifespan of the building.

With time, the client allowed us to add some bespoke African detailing which distinguishes this building from their global counterparts.
